She really has turned this whole thing round.
Nicola Roberts has managed to turn being 'the ugly one' into being 'the quirky one'. The best thing about this is that she managed to do it seamlessly and with dignity. Not just that, but has released a corker of a pop tune, from what I am sure will be an amazing pop album.
'Beat of my drum' might sound like a mindless pop song, but the lyrics actually seem to mean a lot to Nicola, addressing the way she has made this transition:
"Once upon a time I pressed rewind
two left feet I had no beat
Baby in the corner learning quick
keep up, keep up, keep up
Graduation take a bow
See how strong you made me now
Two steppin' all over me, cha cha cha cha
I'm in
Oohh don't it make your heart go wow
Oohh the way I've turned this whole thing round"
Yes Nicola, it does make my heart go wow. It really does. I know we aren't supposed to compare the Girls Aloud girls to each other(apparently 'true' fans wouldn't do such a thing) but lets be serious for a moment. Nicola's song shits all over any of Cheryl's. Cheryl was so popular by the time she actually released a song that the record label knew she could release absolutely anything and it would be a hit. Poor Nadine on the other hand, has done a 'Gary Barlow'. She was the one that was always supposed to make it, the one with the 'best voice'(and legs for that matter) but some very poor marketing and a song that would've been good about 10 years ago meant that her album flopped. Now, enter Nicola. Edgy fashion choices, a hit make-up line, dancy beats that are in without sounding like every other crappy 'dance' song around, fun lyrics, and honest interviews. And the styling in her video! It makes me want 2 BE her!! If her album isn't a hit, I don't really care- she already holds a spot in my pop music history, and she should be applauded.
Oh, and her hair looks amazing right now.
